Stats:
There are three basic versions of this record; a white label and regular pressings by Ugly Pop Records and a repress by Parts Unknown; the three versions are shown below:
Version 1: "Test Pressing" AKA "European Tour Version"
Year: August 2003
Label: Ugly Pop Records – UP014
Matrix A: UP 014-A
Matrix B: UP 014-B
Inserts: A4 photocopied sheet with insert explaining background of release - see notes below
Pressing Info: Pressing of 100 on white label. Most have stamped labels, but a *few were not stamped and were kept as test pressings. (*The old CS website said 6 were used as Test Pressings, Discogs says 4) Some of the stamped ones were hand numbered randomly.
Notes: The band were not entirely happy with the mixing on this record, but they needed something available for the European Tour, so this limited run was pressed, packaged in generic black 'DJ' sleeves.
Version 2: Ugly Pop 'Regular Pressing'(s)
Label: Ugly Pop Records – UP014
Matrix A: UP 014-A
Matrix B: UP 014-B

Extracts From ExD Interview published Mar 23 2008):
Jonah: The Ugly Pop record took a long time to come out so we released a second demo tape, which was songs from the Ugly Pop record. Before the LP record was actually released, came the 7” on Kangaroo records followed then by the “SARS” 7” and then the long awaited Ugly Pop LP came after that*, so our second and third record came out and then our first record came out...
*In terms of release dates dates, the self titled 7" came out first, followed by the 100 Test Press copies of the S/T LP ready for the Euro Tour. Following the tour, the proper First Press of the LP on Ugly Pop came out shortly after SARS (Probably).
"Bonus Career Suicide Interview Insert" This is an A3, double-sided insert that came with "Not a Game" Hardcore Fanzine Issue 2 (2003). Interview originally conducted in Oct 2002 by Mike Haliechuk of "Breakout Fanzine" - the piece was put together to send to promoters in preparation for the Euro Tour. Approved Test Press (Ugly Pop): This relates to the 'Regular Pressings' on Ugly Pop. There is only one of these in existence, here's what Ethan says about it: I guess the record wasn’t done being mixed, but they ordered the 100 test presses to sell in Europe. After the tour, they finished mixing the record, had it repressed for the official first pressing. That’s where the 1/1 test pressing came in. After remixing, the band/label didn’t order new test presses, just the first pressing. The pressing plant made 1 test pressing for their files. |
